Queenston Pottery Studio

Queenston Pottery has been crafting fine ceramic art for over four decades and sharing it with the Niagara region and beyond. Founded in 1978 by husband and wife Frank and Eva Mlcak, the studio started small with a focus on handmade pottery.

Queenston Pottery began wholesaling its signature artistic and functional pieces as the business grew to gift stores across Canada.

Today, Queenston Pottery is a thriving multigenerational family enterprise run by Eva, her son Reesha, daughter-in-law Lisa, and their dedicated production team. The studio's onsite gallery exhibits a history of one-of-a-kind ceramics, many purchased by delighted visitors from around the world.

Their gallery and gardens continue to be a welcoming Niagara destination for experiencing the beauty of clay and fire. The team handcrafts each stoneware piece using an array of colourful, reduction-fired glazes perfected over decades of experimentation. Fired at over 1300°C in a custom-built kiln, Queenston Pottery marries artistry with functionality to create lasting treasures.

Queenston Pottery brings an artistic eye and meticulous process to creating their signature stoneware pieces.

Decades of experimenting with clay formulations, manufacturing processes, glaze recipes, and firing techniques were invested to produce durable, functional, and beautiful works of art. Each item is crafted from white stoneware clay and undergoes a first firing to 1000°C. It is glazed using a selection of over 25 formulations that are applied by dipping, spraying, layering, and detailed brushwork to make every finished piece unique. Finally, a high-temperature 1320°C firing in Queenston Pottery’s hand-built reduction kiln vitrifies the clay and glazes to achieve the desired hardness, textures, and colours. From clay mixing to final display in the gallery, each piece is handled many times before it is available to the public. Queenston Pottery blends art, science, and craft to create lasting beauty.
