“I have a fascination with Canadian landscapes. I have travelled extensively across Canada from the age of four.
I am in love with Newfoundland’s topography and its people.

I start by going through piles of reference photos and selecting images that I find appealing.
Decide on the size of the canvas, and then I work from my standard colour palette. I work predominately in acrylics. I start with an underpainting and build on that foundation. Taking photos throughout the process
When I near the competition, I set the painting aside, scrutinize what I have done and apply the finishing touches.
A Mixed media piece starts with gathering interesting bits of paper, cloth, and items to create patterns and textures. I take a wood cradle and lay down an undercoat of acrylic paint. Let it dry. Then begin bringing together interesting papers and bits of cloth, laying them out and rearranging them until I get something interesting. I then begin gluing down. I may stamp, use stencils etc to create interest. Once I have decided the piece is finished I put on a protective coat.
