Jacki Higenbottam
Jacki is a local abstract artist from Niagara-on-the-Lake and has been painting for 3 years. Her self-taught passion exploded after her father’s passing in 2021. It became her outlet, her therapy, her light. She instantly fell in love with the idea of getting lost in the immersion of her consciousness without external noise.
Jacki’s passion for nature, water, landscape and textiles is where she draws her inspiration for her creative process from. Whether it’s a summer sunset drive, a coastal hike, or even a foggy winter day, there’s an energy in these moments that she capitalizes on.
Since beginning her journey Jacki has sold her work in Galleries, shown at multiple juried local art shows, won an award for Best Painting at The Pelham Art Show 2023, and will be exhibiting at The Art Gallery of Niagara Falls April 2024- June 2024.
Jacki has a passion for textured abstract and incorporates sand in many of her pieces from her local travels and the family beach house in Port Maitland.
She uses acrylics and a multitude of tools such as spatulas, fibreglass pieces, palette knives, brushes, sticks, and squeegees in a meditative rhythm. Jacki starts her pieces with intuitive mark-making and builds with multiple layers of acrylic and sand.
