Tim Sullivan

From an early age, Tim was fascinated by the local landscapes of southern Ontario.

The rolling hills with their farms, lakes and rocky outcroppings were particularly inspiring. Weekend trips to Muskoka were most enjoyable and he first tried plein-air painting there in his mid-teens.

After retiring from a business and relocating to the Niagara area he resumed his painting and transitioned to acrylic-based paints which he found convenient with their fast drying and durability.

Moving from Toronto to Niagara-on-the-Lake rekindled his love of landscape painting especially the lake views, vineyards and farms, as well as the Niagara River, and the many creeks along the Niagara Escarpment.

“I make a point of often getting outside and walking the south shore of Lake Ontario and driving the back roads of the Niagara region when I take a large number of photos.

From there I will do small studies in my studio with acrylic paint on watercolour paper usually 9” x 12”. If I’m pleased with one I will then do a larger version on canvas often making changes as I go to improve the composition particularly to emphasize the focal point.”
