Molly Yimlei Yep
As a retired Canadian architect trained at McGill University, I love working in three dimensions in clay and soapstone. I studied ceramics full-time in England, specializing in porcelain.
With clay, I throw and alter or hand-build and join with slip so that the resulting work is fired as one piece. I test and make my own glazes from raw materials. My custom cremation urns are made from non-porous porcelain fired in my personal gas kiln.
With natural soapstone, the process of carving is subtractive. I use mostly hand tools to remove and shape the stone, finishing with fine wet sandpaper. I work with various types of soapstone and alabaster.
“I am inspired by the freedom of creatures great and small in nature living happily among us.”
