Alison Fardoe

Inspired by nature, Alison Fardoe has been making art and jewelry throughout her career.

Born and raised in Toronto, Alison holds an honours diploma from OCAD University, (Ontario College of Art and Design) where she studied drawing, painting, sculpture and silversmithing. During that tenure, she also spent a year of independent study in Florence, Italy. She also holds an honours diploma from Central Technical Schools' three-year Specialized Arts program and has taught art through the North York Board of Education and also ran her own jewelry studio.

While raising her three children she spent summers in Chester, Nova, Scotia painting landscapes inspired by spectacular coastal surroundings. Back in Toronto, fall walks through ravines amongst fallen oak leaves inspired her to explore their potential as art bringing them new life, form and colour.

In the fall of 2020, Alison moved to Niagara-On-The-Lake and gratefully discovered its deep symbolic and historic connection to its celebrated ancient oak trees and forests. A neighbouring 400-year-old heritage white oak on Lakeshore Road has been a major muse and inspiration for her recent works. It is here where she now paints and operates the Ostudio Gallery.

“The sky, water, trees and birds are my main muses and I am fascinated by their textures, forms, contours, colours and the hidden worlds within them.

I work in a variety of mediums, including oil and acrylic paints, acrylic mediums and wood panels. I express myself in both representational and abstract ways often layering and sculpting to create multi-dimensional art forms.”
